Bachelorette Party

Last weekend there was a bachelorette party for my granddaughter Amanda.  It was hosted by the maid-of-honor and attended by 3 of her 4 bridesmaids. I also was invited to attend as the designated driver for the evening.  It was a lot of fun.

First we checked into the hotel and the girls started the event with jello shots that Amanda's fiancĂ©e supplied.  Next we went to Applebee's, Amanda's favorite restaurant, for a good meal. The waiter was kind enough to take our picture.

Before we left, we gave Amanda a few gag gifts. Mine was a small garbage can decorated with "Amanda's Barf Bucket" in sticker letters. Wish I would have gotten a picture of it because by the end of the night, most of the stickers came off.

Our next stop was the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA where we made Amanda put on her blinking crown and sash that said Bride-to-be.  We all took a chance at the slot machines. Some of us won, some of us lost.....I wasn't one of the winners, but I did have fun. Here is a picture of Amanda trying her luck.

Our last stop for the evening was at the Molten Lounge in the Sands.

One of Amanda's favorite cover bands "UUU" was playing there.  Needless to say, her blinking apparel was getting her attention with lots of Congratulations from people around us.  The girls at the table next to us gave her a Blue Long Island to drink, which instantly became her favorite for the night.

After a lot of dancing we finally made it back to our hotel about 1:30 am and everyone fell right to sleep.

How I Spent National Scrapbooking Day

Alot has been going on the last week.  As I mentioned in my previous post, there was a family birthday I had to attend on NSD.  I figured at least I would be able to take some pictures for a layout that I can do later.  However, as usual, life stepped in....

I was driving with my granddaughter, Amanda,  to Kmart to get a birthday present for the party when we heard a funny noise.  The next thing we knew the wheel from the driver's front side was rolling down the road in front of us and the car was scraping along the ground. I safely got the car off to the side of the road and we spent the next hour waiting for a tow truck.

Then Amanda's fiancee and her dad came to the rescue by fixing the broken parts that same afternoon.  I must admit that when it comes to car lingo, I am far from literate.  I just know that the bolt-like things that the lug nuts go on were broken.  We still haven't figured out what happened to them.

Needless to say, I did not do any layouts on NSD. The weekend was not a total waste however.  I did have a chance download a trial copy of Corel Paintshop Pro #4 and try my hand at making my first digital layout about my granddaughter's 21st birthday. Then I uploaded it to to enter my first ever challenge - May 2013 Monthly Sketch Challenge.  After uploading, I realized the color that I used for the lettering was not easy to see on the background I selected.  Here is the layout:

It is about my oldest granddaughter's 21st birthday.  She wanted to celebrate in Atlantic City so, along with her brother and his girlfriend, I agreed to take her. At midnight on June 13, 2011 we spent time at Bally's Casino Slots. Next they danced and drank the night away at one of the beach bars, while I acted as the "responsible" adult. After some much needed sleep, we finished the afternoon with a stroll on the boardwalk where Paul paid for Amanda's tattoo as his present to her.

Happy International Scrapbooking Day!.

Good Morning to all! I was really looking forward to participating in this day, but I have a family birthday to attend this afternoon.  I am hoping to take part later in the day, after the party is over.  I have completed a layout for my mother's 90th birthday party.
She turned 90 in September of 2009 and my brother and I planned a surprise party in the recreation room of the Hampton House (where she was living at the time).  My granddaughter, Nancy, arranged for a stripping gorilla to come.  Mom was a little embarrassed at first, but got into it when she realized the gorilla was not going to remove the gorilla suit.

My mother will be turning 94 in September of this year and is currently living in a nursing home.  I am hoping she will be like her father who lived to be 101. The moments we spend together are becoming increasingly important because I know the time will soon come when she is not here.

Getting to Know Me

Good Morning and welcome to my blog. I thought for my first post I would introduce myself and tell you a little about my life.

My name is Jackie. I am a 64-year-old widowed grandmother, working part-time in a one person office for a small delivery company. I had 3 children (the oldest is deceased)and five fantastic grandchildren. The oldest being 23 and the youngest is 12.  I live with my oldest grandaughter, Amanda and her fiancee, Richard who are getting married on July 13, 2013.

We live with two dogs: Ruckiz is Richard's 6-year-old pit bull. My dog Skeeter is a cocker spaniel mix.  He was a rescue dog, so we are not sure of his age, but estimate it at 6 or 7.  I have had him for 5 years and he is my best friend, full of energy but can be so stubborn at times.

Amanda's brother Paul and his fiancee, Emily will also be tying the knot in May of 2014.

I did some scrapbooking about 12 years ago and have been wanting to get back to it for a long time, but just kept putting it off. Now with two weddings coming up I decided it was time to get started. I hope you will be patient with me as I am learning new techniques to make my scrapbook pages improve as I go along.
